Catching-up with Counselor Sara!

Sara

My name is Sara and I am from Los Angeles, California. I am the youngest in my family and have one older brother, Michael. I grew up in a very energetic family: I was enrolled in sports, dance, and horseback riding and I am proud to say that my family and I are extremely close.

Growing up in my family was always an adventure.  We did summer vacations (always traveling to a new location), camping, hiking, and always enjoyed family movie nights. My interests and hobbies include hiking, finding new adventures to go on with friends, exploring new locations, and going to concerts and movies. I love traveling and dream of moving to New York for a couple years after college. New York has a special place in my heart – especially the Hamptons 😉

SaraWhen I’m not at camp, I am a full time student at Chico State in Northern California. I’m in my final semester, as I graduate in December with a degree in Liberal Studies and a minor in Child Development. I dream to be an elementary school teacher and hope someday to open my own preschool!

I have been working at summer camps for the past 4 summers, and by far, summertime is my favorite time of year! I love working with children and forming relationships with them, I love making new friendships, I love being able to travel, I love putting my knowledge from school to use during the summer, and most of all I love the children I meet!

Every summer I grow such a bond with my campers and I always enjoy it so much. This summer at HCDC I worked with the 5-year-old boys, and that was definitely a new experience for me! I had always worked with either co-ed groups or all girls, but this summer was completely different! I loved my boys, I loved my experience, and I loved my time with this particular group.  You have to have a lot of energy to keep up with them, and boy did I receive a work-out!!!

One thing I’ve noticed across the board is that camp time is a time to shine – I always enjoyed the energy at Hampton Country Day Camp and especially the people. It truly makes me happy and gives me a feeling of utter completeness. Being at HCDC gives all of us the opportunity to be completely unique, silly, fun, and adventurous. In return, we get a feeling of being understood and accepted – There’s no other place like HCDC!
